In 1834 Athens was declared the capital city of Greece. In the same year king Otho came to Athens. The then humble village had to be transformed into a modern city and so an intensive building project got under way. Several buildings were built to meet the needs of the new capital inspired mainly by classical architecture. The tour takes you along the main streets of Athens, where you can see typical examples of neoclassical and other historic buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries, such as the National Garden, the Greek Parliament, the Athens Trilogy, the Historic Museum, the Town Hall and the National Bank of Greece.
