It is the biggest and most important museum of ancient art in Greece. The building of the museum goes back to the 19th century and gives shelter to various collections. We just mention the prehistoric collection with the gold treasure of the Mycenaean royal tombs, the enormous sculpture collection which displays the development of Greek sculpture from the 8th century B.C. to the late 4th century A.D. and the bronze collection with the famous mechanism of Antikythera, the oldest calculator of the world.
